Description
Frank Lloyd Wright 's paradigm-shifting designs. Drawing on TASCHEN's previous monographs and unlimited access to the Frank Lloyd Wright archives, this authoritative overview spans Wright's career to bring you all the gems of his genius in one compact edition.
The highlights of the greatest American architect:
A building by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867–1959) is both unmistakably individual and evocative of an entire era. Notable for their exceptional harmony with their surroundings, as well as their use of steel and glass to revolutionize the interface between interior and exterior, Wright's designs helped herald the era of modernity as much as they secured his place in the annals of architectural genius.
This meticulous compilation of TASCHEN's previous monograph assembles the highlights of Wright's vast, groundbreaking oeuvre into an authoritative overview of America's most celebrated architect. Drawing on unrestricted access to the archives of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation at Taliesin West, Arizona, the collection spans the breadth of Wright's projects, both realized and unrealized, from his early prairie homes, the conceptual Usonian houses, and the extraordinary Fallingwater to his Tokyo years, his designs for government buildings and houses of worship, and later high-profile projects such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as his fantastical visions for a better future with "The Living City."
The author
Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer (1930–2017) apprenticed to Frank Lloyd Wright at the Taliesin Fellowship. He later attended the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and returned in 1958 to continue his apprenticeship with Wright until his death in 1959. Pfeiffer founded the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives, where he cataloged Wright's collections of drawings, manuscripts, letters, and other papers. He also authored numerous publications on Wright's life and work.
