Blackwing Limited Edition Vol.746

Blackwing 746 is a tribute to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.
The pencil features the solid Japanese graphite core named FIRM (like the iconic Blackwing 602) and the barrel is characterized by its iconic dark orange color – the same as the famous bridge – achieved with a special multi-layer technique.

In the summer of 1929, the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District hired Joseph B. Strauss to complete a task many thought impossible: building a bridge across the turbulent waters of the Golden Gate Strait. He and his team of engineers, designers, and planners used paper and pencil to develop sketches and drawings that would eventually become the Golden Gate Bridge.

When the Golden Gate Bridge opened on May 27, 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world and quickly became a symbol of San Francisco.
The Golden Gate Bridge measures 2.71 km (1.7 miles) in length, and the two towers, which support the structure at both ends, are 746 feet (227m) high - hence the name of this limited edition. The innovative engineering techniques used to build the bridge allowed it to withstand strong winds, hurricanes, impetuous ocean currents, as well as earthquake tremors caused by the nearby San Andreas Fault.
