The new limited edition Blackwing, volume 57, is a tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The number 57 is a reference to 57 Great Jones Street in New York City, where Basquiat created some of his best-known works. Jean-Michel Basquiat is one of the best-known artists of his generation and is widely considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
His works are edgy and raw with bold use of color and composition. His work combined text, numbers, symbols and images in striking works of urban imagery and primitivism. His paintings are full of texts and codes of all kinds: words, letters, numbers, pictograms, logos, maps, diagrams and more.
The design for the vol. 57 features one of his iconic works and showcases his unique style and technique.
